The Weatherization Assistance Program: Sustainable Energy Solutions for Low-Income Households

The Weatherization Assistance Program is a federally funded program intended to reduce energy costs for low-income families.  Not only will this avoid high energy costs for families, but it can have a lasting effect on the health of low-income families. This is because sustained high temperatures and living conditions poorly affect a multitude of health conditions. Weatherization is the process of changing a building to make it stay cooler, such as sealing cracks and exhaust ducts or improving ventilation. The process has a lasting, social effect on not only the health and wellness of a household, but the entire community.
