Welcome to the 2012 Health Expo

President & CEO Dwight Tillery

Dear Friends,

The Center for Closing the Health Gap works tirelessly to offer leading edge tools and programs to end health disparities in our region. Our partnerships with other health-focused organizations, schools and community members are essential to our success and your support over the years has allowed us to make a positive and significant impact on the health of undeserved communities in the area. The Center is now involved in several national and regional health initiatives and is a valued local resource for health impact information.

Our largest and most public forum is the annual Health Expo, which provides free health screenings, health education, and health awareness activities to the public. The focus at this year’s Expo centered on encouraging people to eat healthier and get more exercise. We know that the negative impact of health disparities most often hits African Americans the hardest. Our goal at the Center is to reverse that trend.

Each year, the free screenings give Expo attendees the opportunity to take control of their health and help identify illnesses that if left undetected could have devastating effects. The healthcare professionals conducting these screenings are an invaluable part of our team. Their ability to inform and then encourage people to take action on their screening results is an important part of our work in improving health outcomes.

I’d also like to acknowledge the longstanding support the Center has received from our
sponsors who underwrite much of the cost of the Expo. They enable us to offer the wide
spectrum of activities, programming, health screenings and free takeaway information that
attendees receive each year. They are phenomenal advocates and we are deeply appreciative of their continued support.
My thanks also goes to The Center for Closing the Health Gap Board, staff and the hundreds of volunteers who make our work possible throughout the year. Their time and talent directly impact our accomplishments and enable us to continue to strive for a healthier community.

Thanks so much for all you do. We couldn’t do it without you.

Dwight Tillery
