The Health Gap Needs Your Support

June 08, 2018

We would like to thank you for sending letters of support and showing up at the city budget hearings this week. It was a wonderful turnout. Soon, Cincinnati City Council will be voting on the city budget for the year. We are urging you to call your city council members directly and ask them to continue funding the Health Gap, you can find their numbers listed above. The mayor has proposed to cut all funding for the Center for Closing the Health Gap. The funding that the Health Gap receives from the city is crucial to continuing its work to address the elimination of ethnic and racial health disparities. We need your voice to help us show City Council that our work makes a difference in our community.

Please continue sharing your personal stories on how the Health Gap has impacted you and your families’ lives by emailing City Council at citycouncil@cincinnati-oh.gov or by mailing a letter directly to City Hall at  801 Plum St., Cincinnati, OH 45202. Below are two sample letter templates that you can use to share your story. You can also show your support by calling into the local radio stations and sharing your story there as well. We appreciate your support, we could not exist without the voice of the community that we serve.

Sample Letter 1:
Dear City Council:

The Center for Closing the Health Gap helped me to live a healthier lifestyle. I was unsure of what I would learn attending one of their wellness programs, but I discovered a community that spoke to me and my needs. Not only did I gain knowledge, I was also given tools. resources, and a support system to put what I learned to work to build better habits.  The class was free which really helped me financially.

This great program needs to continue and I ask City Council to support the funding of this organization.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]

Sample Letter 2:

Dear City Council:

I live in a neighborhood that does not have easy access to quality food. Fast food has been my friend and helped to feed my family. Attending the Health Gap’s Nutrition Train the Trainer program opened my eyes to how much fat I was eating and serving my family. With their help, I learned to plan meals that did not use processed food. My classmates and I had a great time sharing ideas and learning new recipes.

The Center for Closing the Health Gap changed my life, and I am asking City Council to continue to fund this much needed community organization.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
