“Stress of poverty, racism raise risk of Alzheimer’s for African Americans, new research suggests”

 

Social conditions, including the stress of poverty and racism, substantially raise the risks of dementia for African Americans, according to research from four separate studies. The studies also found that conditions that disproportionately affect black people—such as poor living conditions, chronic unemployment, and other stressful life events—have severe consequences for brain health in later life.
