State Estimates of Limited English Proficiency by Health Insurance Status

In a recent report from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, data from the American Community Survey revealed that an estimated 9.5 million individuals with limited English Proficiency (LEP) were uninsured; that’s over one third of the total estimated individuals in the country with LEP.  Despite the total of individuals with LEP only accounting for 8.6% of the American Population, they contribute to 21.7% of the uninsured population.

27.7 Million Previously Uninsured People Are Eligible for Assistance under the Affordable Care Act

An updated report recently released by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation revealed that 56% of uninsured individuals across the nation became eligible to receive financial assistance for health insurance coverage, whether it is through Medicaid, Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or marketplaces.  Key findings from the updated report indicated that Medicaid expansion greatly increased the percentage of eligible individuals.
