Avondale Choice Neighborhoods is part of a $29 million federal grant awarded from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), geared toward the revitalization of the Avondale public housing community.

The Center for Closing the Health Gap, the Community Builders, Inc., the Urban League of Greater Cincinnati, and the Avondale Development Corporation are all working in partnership to help the residents of five buildings achieve their goals. Do Right!® Healthy Stores Campaign Expands

The Do Right!® Corner Store Network has expanded to the West End through a Greater Cincinnati Foundation grant. West End joins Avondale in addressing the city’s food deserts issue — Walnut Hills, Lower Price Hill, Northside, South Cumminsville/Millvale and Mt. Auburn will soon follow.

Jet-In (pictured right) entered the network in June after West End’s Food Outlet Assessment led by West End residents. Eight of the Health Gap’s planned 14 corner stores will be operational by the first quarter of 2014.
