Maintaining Mobility in Older Adults
As people get older, they tend to live sedentary lifestyles and have less mobility which results in not being able participate in activities quite like they used to. Many older adults struggle with mobility, meaning it is hard for them to walk without assistance. However, a recent study conducted by the Yale School of Medicine found that just a simple 20 minute walk a day can prevent reduced mobility and enhance quality of life. Following the study, results showed that participants in the physical activity group experienced an 18% decrease in the risk for major mobility disabilities. Increased mobility is important in everyday life for people of all ages, especially seniors, and can help prevent sickness and disability in the later years. Be sure to walk everyday to maintain mobility and a healthy lifestyle. Get up, and get moving!
